The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning are delighted to announce that Dr Terry Maguire has been appointed as Director for a second term.
Dr Maguire led the Forum from its inception in 2013, establishing the body to drive a collaborative strategy for enhancing teaching and learning across Ireland’s higher education sector.
Speaking at the announcement, Prof Sarah Moore, Chair of the National Forum said, “On behalf of the Board of the Forum I wholeheartedly welcome Dr Terry Maguire back for a second term as Director of the National Forum. As the Forum enters phase two of its development and as I come to the end of my own term as chair, it is wonderful that Dr Terry Maguire will be bringing a wealth of experience, vision and commitment to collaboration to the Forum. Dr Maguire brings a vast knowledge of higher level teaching and learning experience and a strategic view that is informed by both national and international perspectives.”

Dr Maguire – Biography.
Dr Terry Maguire is an Irish educator and senior manager who is actively committed to how teaching and learning can transform individual lives. Originally a science graduate from University College Cork, Terry spent 14 years working in Higher Education in Scotland where she pioneered flexible and blended approaches to teaching and learning.
After returning to Ireland, she worked with the National Council for Vocational Awards (NCVA) before completing her PhD at University of Limerick. Terry has a particular interest in professional development and adult mathematics education.
She is currently a member of the OECD Numeracy Expert Group, for the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). She is the creator of the internationally-renowned initiative Maths Eyes, devised to demystify mathematics and demonstrate its importance in everyday life.
In 2006, Terry was appointed as the Head of lifelong Learning in Institute of Technology Tallaght. She was seconded from her institution to the National Forum from 2013-2017, as the inaugural Director to establish the National Forum as an essential component of the national-level infrastructure for higher education in Ireland. Terry has now been appointed to lead the Forum into phase two of its existence.
Dr Maguire received her BSc and MSc degree from University College Cork and her BA(Maths) degree through the Open University.
The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education was initiated in 2012 by the Minister for Education and Skills to enhance teaching and learning in higher education. The Forum engages collaboratively with students, teachers, managers and leaders, to devise and drive enhancements to teaching and learning. The Forum mobilises expertise and inputs from across the sector in Ireland and globally to extend and shape best practice in all institutions of higher education in Ireland.
