This privacy notice is designed to provide you with information as to how the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning.

(NFETL) as data controller processes personal data, by providing detail in relation to the processing activities of the NTEFL in carrying out its statutory functions.

The NFETL is an associated agency of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, under the aegis of the Higher Education Authority (HEA), and its function is to lead the enhancement of teaching and learning in partnership with students, staff and leaders in Irish higher education to develop an inclusive, collaborative and innovative culture that maximises learning impact for the success of all students.

 

PURPOSE OF THIS DOCUMENT

This notice sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or from others, will be used by us. Please read the following carefully to understand our practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it. For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (the GDPR) (the Acts), the HEA is the data controller in the performance of the NFETL’s mandate. WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT FROM YOU?

The type of personal data that we collect and use depends on your particular role in the processes we undertake in the NFETL. This may include participating in our funded initiatives, including the DELTA and SATLE awards, or by being an Associate of the National Forum, or by engaging with our programmes such as the Open Courses, Open Badges, National Resource Hub, the Teaching and Learning Scholarship Database, or our newsletter.

 

In general, our categories of data subjects will be staff in the higher and further education sectors. We generally collect and process the following kinds of data in relation to our programmes:

  • Name
  • Email address/Phone number
  • Higher education institution affiliation
  • Application details such as reasons for interest, discipline area, description of professional initiatives etc.
  • Videos of award team for evidence of team support.

 

We collect this information directly from the data subject, mostly through email, application forms, and engagement with our website. We use this personal information to carry out our programmes effectively.

 

LEGAL BASIS

Our legal basis for processing this data is Article 6(1)(f)- processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller. The Higher Education Authority Act 2022 provides the HEA with its statutory functions and its power to process personal data for the performance of these functions.

 

WHO WE SHARE DATA WITH?

In some cases such as SATLE leads and Ireland’s Teaching and Learning Scholarship Database, we publish this information on the National Forum website. In the case of DELTA applications, information is shared with the reviewers of this award via our online portal. We only publish personal data where necessary to achieve our purpose, and we will always make data subjects aware that this data will be publicly available before collecting it. In other cases we may need to share data with data processors we appoint. In these cases we will ensure the appropriate processing agreements are in place. Where we need to transfer personal data outside of the EEA, we will ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.

 

HOW LONG DO WE RETAIN YOUR INFORMATION?

The time periods for which we retain your information depends on the type of information and the purposes for which we use it. We will keep your information for no longer than is required to meet the purpose for which we collect it. For further information on the periods for which your personal data is kept, please see our data retention policy in Schedule 1.

 

 

DO WE USE AUTOMATED DECISION-MAKING AND PROFILING?

We do not use automated decision-making/profiling in any of our activities.

 

WHAT ARE YOUR RIGHTS WITH RESPECT TO YOUR PERSONAL DATA? You have the following rights:

  • To access the personal data we hold about you
  • To require us to rectify any inaccurate personal data about you without undue delay
  • To have us erase any personal data we hold about you in certain circumstances, such as when it is no longer necessary for us to hold the personal data or, in some circumstances, if you have withdrawn your consent to the processing
  • To object to us processing personal data about you, such as processing for profiling or direct marketing
  • To ask us to provide your personal data to you in a portable format or, where technically feasible, for us to port that personal data to another provider provided it does not result in a disclosure of personal data relating to other people
  • To request a restriction of the processing of your personal data Where our processing of your personal data is based on your consent to that processing, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time, but any processing that we have carried out before you withdrew your consent remains lawful.
