Visioning the Future II: Doctoral Education in the School of Film, Music and Theatre at University College Cork builds on Visioning the Future: Artistic Doctorates in Ireland, an initiative funded in 2019 by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
Visioning the Future: Artistic Doctorates in Ireland focused on developing integrated pedagogies and protocols for Artistic Doctorates in Creative Practice. Artistic Doctorates are practice-based PhDs that place artistic practice on an equal footing with critical writing. There is currently no national protocol related to Artistic Doctorates within Ireland. Visioning the Future: Artistic Doctorates in Ireland broke new ground by conducting research into higher-education policies in Ireland and internationally.
Visioning the Future II builds on this impressive outcome and fully embeds it in the School of Film, Music and Theatre at University College Cork. It is a case study for the comparative development of emergent pedagogies across several Creative Practice disciplines: the performing and screen arts within our School will be a platform to shape protocols nationally.
Visioning the Future II draws on our Open Educational Resources to integrate innovative pedagogies and protocols, including those developed during the pandemic. The initiative aims to develop a nationally progressive and internationally competitive Doctoral School of Film, Music and Theatre, with a robust focus on resilience and student success.
