Overview

‘Enhancing Real World Learning’ is a T&L initiative that will enhance the collaborative links with industry that underpin NCAD’s recently established Studio+ / Visual Culture+ programme.

Studio Plus / Visual Culture Plus, is an optional additional year between Year 2 and Final Year that offers students an opportunity to immerse themselves in real-world work environments locally or internationally.

Internships:

Investment in engagement with industry partners and students to deepen understanding of each other’s expectations and understandings, and test how our approaches meet student need will:

• Enhance ‘placement practice’ within NCAD, guiding our development of teaching content and practice in support of student learning in industry settings
• Provide an evidence base for a robust ‘NCAD Internship Framework’ that is deliverable, reflects best practice, and is sustainable (from the perspective of all stakeholders – students, industry partners and NCAD)

Design Bureau, Embedded Micro-Studios:

Investment in engagement with industry partners and students to deepen understanding of each other’s expectations and understandings, and test how our approaches meet student need will:

• Enable us to evaluate Studio+ /Visual Culture+ from a broad stakeholder perspective, and work with our industry partners to develop an evidence-based enhancement plan for learning and teaching within this structure.
• Expand:
o the range of industry partnerships through which Studio+ / Visual Culture+ is delivered
o the kinds of real world learning opportunities offered to students
o the number of staff engaging with Studio+ / Visual Culture+ as a real world learning structure and environment
