Opencourses.ie successfully hosted a pilot programme on Digital Leadership, developed by a European-funded project (CUTIE -Competencies for Universities using Technology in education and Institutional Empowerment). Almost 300 people, from 55 universities, including a number in Latin America, registered an interest, 190 of whom engaged with the course materials to varying extents. The course was based on the European Digital Competence Framework for Educators and aimed to support those leading teams or programmes in addressing the relationships between technology and pedagogy. Weekly, live online sessions had plenty of lively discussion and the course has just finished, with participants finishing off their assessment tasks for the award of a digital badge and certificate, the first batch of 40 having been issued last week. Feedback has been very positive and it is clear that this is a topic for which there is a need for continuing professional development. The course materials were written by Iain MacLaren and additional supports and interactive components by Lyndsay Olson (both University of Galway), with case study contributions from the CUTIE project team. In keeping with the ethos of Opencourses.ie and CUTIE all the resources are available under a Creative Commons licence.
