The 3rd Annual University Learning, Teaching and Assessment Conference, a collaborative initiative between the Centre for Transformative Learning and the faculty Associate Deans for Academic Affairs (ADsAA) took place on 13th January in the University of Limerick.
This year’s theme, “Reimagining Student Engagement – Innovate, Include, Inspire,” explored how student engagement—long a cornerstone of meaningful learning—continues to evolve in response to changing educational paradigms, technological advancements, diverse learner needs, and societal challenges such as the cost-of-living crisis, accommodation shortages, and commuting realities.
Highlights of the day included:
- Keynote by Tom Lowe, a leading expert in Student Engagement, who spoke directly to the conference theme.
- A discussion chaired by our Acting PDP with Pieter Smith (Portflow) on the official launch of our new ePortfolio tool, Portflow.
- Insights from Prof Roy Priest (Birmingham City University) on fostering engagement through meaningful industry partnerships.
The event attracted over 130 registered participants and featured 37 sessions, including
Lightning Talks, Workshops, Practice and Research Papers, and poster displays. The breadth and depth of submissions from across all faculties reflect the significant work being undertaken to advance student engagement at UL. These contributions critically examine, creatively reimagine, and practically enhance approaches to engagement in contemporary learning environments—affirming UL’s position as a centre of excellence in teaching and learning.
