The Digital Education Futures Collective is a cross-faculty cross-function initiative, established to provide practical hands-on and financial support for staff exploring and trialling education technology trends that impact how we teach and learn. Its focus for the coming three years is on furthering eXtended reality (VR, AR, MR) in education at TU Dublin. The Collective will also serve as an incubation hub during this time for other future trends, the first of which is AI Virtual Assistants. Over future years, The Collective will grow to fund and support a wide variety of diverse digital education trends.
Over 2025/26, three projects are being funded to extend work they began in this space in 2024 through seed funding provided by SATLE and N-TUTORR. The Immersive Technology for Digital Tourism project and the Architectural Anatomy XR project are aimed at furthering different approaches to XR in different disciplines at TU Dublin. The Marketing AI Assistant (MAIA) project is an incubation project exploring an AI Virtual Assistant and its benefits for students on our Marketing programmes. A fourth project, the VR Taster Series sets out to give as many academics as possible an opportunity to try out VR technology in a safe and supported environment and to consider, in consultation with TU Dublin’s Digital Education Team, how they could begin to embed similar experiences into their own practice for their students.
