Overview

The Building Information Modelling (BIM) – Futures Toolkit: Designing, developing and piloting a professional development capacity framework for staff, students and industry stakeholders involved in BIM-related practice

The BIM-Futures project will design, develop and pilot a professional development framework for staff, students and industry stakeholders involved in BIM-related academic and industry practice.

This will include an extensive stakeholder engagement process to inform the design of a BIM-competency assessment tool, which will be embedded into an existing professional development resource using an e-portfolio framework. The competency assessment and learning resources will be aligned to multiple user groups, professional disciplines and activities. The project will employ evidence-based and research-informed approaches to develop authentic intra- and inter-disciplinary and institutional learning opportunities for staff, students and industry stakeholders. This capacity-building approach will inform an evolving national BIM educational framework to provide strategic leadership across the higher education sector by harnessing and building on the synergies between institute policy, professional development provision and curriculum innovation.

The project aims to embed BIM and digital literacy as a core pedagogical methodology across all programmes in the Department of Building and Civil Engineering in GMIT. It will build on existing regional cluster activities and academic-industry strategic alliances to expand an evolving community of practice and establish GMIT as an international leader in BIM-related teaching and research.
