Overview

This T&L initiative supports our vision to expand blended learning across the Department of Architecture. The transition to more flexible delivery modes and accommodating Work-Based Learning (WBL)/Work-Integrated Learning (WIL), is key to the development of the Department, School of Engineering and the Institute’s Strategic Plan.

This initiative will deliver modules in a blended learning format within the general themes of Architectural History & Cultural Context. The targeted modules are Introduction to Architectural History (year 1) and Academic and Research Development (year 4). This initiative will transform the delivery of these modules into a blended format, thus enhancing the student learning experience and providing an opportunity for conversion to fully online mode, increasing access to a wider and diverse audience; undergraduate and postgraduate; Irish and International.

These new innovative modules will avail of relevant up-to-date technologies. They will be delivered as part of existing programmes as well as leading to new minor awards.

The initiative will expand upon the Department’s current strong links with local communities in Waterford and beyond. The pilot module will be offered to promote the Department’s activities and generate interest and may also be offered as an elective module in other Departments within WIT.

Our vision encompasses the capacity of the Department to expand our suite of blended learning modules toward the delivery of an externally accredited professional programme in Architecture, as defined by the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI).
