Celebrating and sharing e-portfolio practice

Join us at this online event, co-ordinated by the Teaching Enhancement Unit at DCU, where we will share, discuss and reflect on effective learning and assessment practices with e-portfolios. e-Portfolio activities are noted as student-centred, as they allow students to create and curate collections of artefacts and reflections to document or showcase their learning journeys. They are also lauded for their potential to support employability and document skills development and in doing so can be considered a form of authentic assessment. 2026 marks ten years of e-Portfolio practice at DCU, through the open-source software Mahara (branded internally as ‘Loop Reflect’). At this event, DCU educators will share examples of how they are using e-Portfolios to provide authentic learning and assessment opportunities for their students, and the DCU team will launch a collection of case studies. Additionally, emerging findings from a research study with DCU students and staff on their e-Portfolio experiences will also be disseminated, as well as a discussion on the role, opportunities and challenges for e-Portfolios in higher education going forward. The event will last two hours and will be recorded. All are welcome to attend. For more information, contact teaching.enhancement@dcu.ie
