The 15th Annual National Secondary School Essay-Writing Competition Awards Ceremony, organised by the University of Limerick’s Regional Writing Centre in conjunction with the Centre for Transformative Learning, was held on March 25th in the new Student Life Building, UL.
Students in Transition and 5th year from across Ireland were invited to take a decisive stance on the following prompt: “Is AI a threat to human creativity?”
The primary purpose of our competition is to give students the opportunity to write persuasively on social issues that are relevant to them in preparation for the argumentative writing they will perform later at third level. 46 submissions from 27 schools were adjudicated by a panel of eight judges who had the difficult job of agreeing on the three top submissions.
Our winners this year were: Aimee Phelan, 5th-year student from Coláiste Iósaef Community College, Kilmallock; Róise Reddin, 5th-year student from Coláiste Íosagáin, Dublin; Clodagh Roche, TY student from Coláiste Bríde, Enniscorthy
The winning essays stood out for their creative, well-supported arguments, critical analysis, and coherent, concise writing. Our winners deserve our commendation for the exceptional efforts that they expended in preparing for this competition. Their essays can be read here
