The National Forum is delighted to announce the establishment of a new Student Success Advisory Group to help guide the development of a practical resource for Irish higher education. Members of the Group include students and staff from a range of higher education institutions who bring a depth of experience and a range of expertise across the enablers of student success.
Supported by this Advisory Group, the National Forum, in partnership with the Higher Education Authority, will publish a Toolkit for Embedding Student Success on 06 October 2021. This follows the publication, earlier this year, of a Guiding Framework for Embedding Student Success, which was designed to support the development of student success strategies at institutional level. The forthcoming toolkit will be a practical resource to further support this work.
To date, partnership work between the National Forum and the Higher Education Authority on the area of student success has supported the realisation of related actions in the National Access Plan and Higher Education System Performance Framework 2018-20, and complemented ongoing work in the National Student Engagement Programme and StudentSurvey.ie. In addition, the €5m 2020 Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning (SATLE) Fund has supported the establishment of 74 enhancement initiatives across the sector, each with a strategic focus on transforming teaching and learning for student success.
The Toolkit for Embedding Student Success will assist local higher education communities as they reflect on student success, prompt meaningful conversations across institutions that will focus on what student success means within the context of their institution while collaboratively agreeing approaches that support the continual enhancement of student success into the future. This approach aims to provide all students with the opportunity to fulfil their potential and become creators of new knowledge who are professionally competent, community engaged, ethically conscious and equipped to flourish in a global world.
The 2021 Student Success Advisory Group will build on the foundational work of the 2019 Student Success Advisory Group, who were instrumental in the publication of Ireland’s first national understanding for student success following a national consultation and comprehensive review of student perspectives, institutional and national policies and related literature.
