Learning Analytics Benefits for Institutions

Learning analytics enables institutions to leverage their data, a resource which is already available and abundant, to realise a variety of outcomes including augmenting student learning, enhancing the student experience, increasing students’ engagement with their studies and improving retention. This Insight is intended for HE senior managers and all who wish to gain a greater understanding of the potential applications of learning analytics.

Students as Partners

This Forum Insight aims to give both students and staff some initial thoughts on how they can facilitate students to become partners in the assessment process. It builds on the outputs of a workshop organised in partnership between the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) and the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning. It presents both ideas that students have some control over and ideas that staff could consider in their assessment designs.

Transition from Further Education and Training to Higher Education

The first enhancement theme of the National Forum focused on transitions into and through higher education. Based on surveys and interviews with FET students, the research summarised in this insight begins to fill an important gap in our understanding of transitions, and it recognises the often substantially different experiences of those entering higher education from school, and those entering from the FET sector.

Assessment OF, FOR and AS Learning: Continuing the Debate and Creating a Focus

Assessment OF, FOR and AS Learning is the National Forum’s enhancement theme for 2016- 2018. The National Seminar Series 2015-2016 has already facilitated some initial conversations on this theme. Feedback captured at the National Summit for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 2015 highlighted the significant changes to assessment practices and policies that could be driven by this enhancement theme.
