The 27th Conference of the Heads of University Centres of Biomedical Sciences (HUCBMS) took place in Technological University Dublin on 3-4 September 2019. HUCBMS represents the interests of its member institutions (universities and colleges) at a national and international level and this is the second time their conference has taken place in the Republic of Ireland. The association promotes quality and innovation in biomedical sciences teaching, research and knowledge transfer, helps to ensure that adequate funding is available to departments of biomedical sciences and provides benchmarks for model curricula.
The Director of the National Forum, Dr. Terry Maguire, was an invited speaker at the conference, sharing developments related to the enhancement of teaching and learning within and across disciplines, a key strategic priority underpinning the work of the National Forum. The National Forum has developed a framework for Disciplinary Excellence in Learning Teaching and Assessment (the DELTA Framework), which underpins its recent €5.57m strategic alignment funding call. Disciplines are a key unit of change in higher education and Dr. Maguire provided delegates with insights on recent initiatives focused on supporting disciplines in their teaching and learning enhancement work.
