SUMMARY:National UDL Online Workshops - Workshop Three: Inclusive Module Design Review
DESCRIPTION:The HE Universal Design for Learning Centre for Excellence at Atlantic Technological University is proud to present a series of online workshops led by national experts. This series will be available to all higher education staff throughout Ireland. Through this\, we hope to bring colleagues together and contribute to the national conversation around accessibility and inclusivity at HEIs. \nThere will be three workshops altogether\, each covering a unique angle and led by national experts in their field. You can register for all workshops individually. Please take a look at the details workshop three: \nA national UDL leader\, Lecturer Maureen Haran\, PhD(c)\, SFHEA\, manages the UDL Centre of Excellence at Atlantic Technological University. Maureen works with educational development teams to design and implement inclusive education practices at regional and national levels. She is the programme chair and Lecturer on the Post Graduate Certificate/ MA in UDL. Maureen has worked as an educator in both the Irish and American public education systems for over 18 years and has been an education reformer in working with educational development teams in both countries to design and implement inclusive education practices. She is undertaking her PhD in the field of education with the focus of implementing UDL through a cross campus approach. Maureen continues to work on inclusive education initiatives by leading the continuous professional development of academic staff and actively works on nationally funded projects on Universal Design for Learning implementation within the third level sector. \nShelley Brady holds a PhD from Ulster University. Her research explores the impact of inclusive teaching on student success and the student experience\, digital tools and student empowerment. She has worked in the area of disability since 2002. Throughout that time\, she has been a consultant\, associate fellow and lecturer across a wide range of settings and services. Shelley is currently the manager of the Disability Services in ATU Sligo. She is passionate about creating inclusive education for skill development and employment accessible to all.

Please take a look at the details of workshop two below: \nDr Lisa Padden has worked in University College Dublin (UCD) since 2012 having previously worked at the University of Galway. Lisa’s current role is as Programme Manager for UCD’s University for All initiative\, based in UCD Access & Lifelong Learning. Lisa works with academic and professional colleagues across the university to implement University for All – UCD’s whole-institution approach to student inclusion encompassing strategy and policy\, teaching\, learning and assessment\, student supports and services\, the built environment and technological infrastructure. Lisa has particular expertise in capacity building in the areas of Universal Design and Universal Design for Learning and works with colleagues across the Higher Education and Further Education and Training sector in Ireland through joint coordination of the Digital Badge for Universal Design in Teaching & Learning\, now with almost 3\,000 awardees in Ireland. Lisa has been lead editor on four collections of Universal Design for Learning Case Studies and co-wrote the Toolkit for Inclusive Higher Education Institutions. \n

Please take a look at the details of workshop one below: \nPresented by James Northridge (UCC) and Ellen McCabe (ATU) \nHaving Dyslexia and ADHD\, James Northridge understands the learning challenges that students face. After struggling throughout school due to his own learning challenges and dropping out of University\, a second chance came his way. He turned it around\, earning a first-class honours degree from University College Cork and a Masters in Disability Studies from University College Dublin. James is currently the Project Manager for UCC’s innovative “Inclusive UCC” project\, which is focused on making UCC a leader in Universal Design and Accessibility. \nDr Ellen McCabe has a background in instructional design and educational research\, with a specific interest in UDL and inclusive pedagogies. In her role as instructional designer\, she has supported staff across the ATU to utilise digital tools and resources in the creation of accessible learning environments. She now works as the Teaching and Learning Coordinator for the NTUTTOR project.

SUMMARY:Leadership for strategic change and development in Teaching & Learning in European Universities
DESCRIPTION:The Irish Universities Association is pleased to offer an online policy dialogue workshop which will focus of the issue of leadership for strategic change and development in teaching and learning in European universities. This event is organised in the framework of the EUA-led project “Leadership and Organisation for Learning and Teaching at European Universities” (LOTUS) in which IUA is a partner. The policy dialogue workshop will build on recent work undertaken in Ireland by the IUA’s Enhancing Digital Teaching and Learning project\, and the National Forum for the Enhancement of T&L’s Next Steps project. \nThe event will also present practices from other European countries and offer an overview of how the EU Recovery Fund is being used to strengthen teaching and learning in a range of member states in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. \nThe policy dialogue workshop will be of interest to institutional leaders with a responsibility in learning and teaching\, teachers\, education developers\, national and European policy leaders\, as well as representatives of stakeholder organisations active in learning and teaching. \nThe event will be hosted on the Zoom platform. DESCRIPTION:The National Forum is delighted to support the Science Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) 2021 Conference\, to be hosted online on 01 October by Athlone Institute of Technology\, Dundalk Institute of Technology and Waterford Institute of Technology. This is the fourth in a series of SURE Conferences. Students from throughout Ireland who are completing their final year project in a science discipline in 2020-21 are invited to submit their undergraduate research work to this conference. \nThe aims of the SURE conference is to: \n\nProvide current students with an opportunity to gain an understanding of the work which has been undertaken by recent graduates\, and the career opportunities that exist for graduates in Scientific disciplines.\nProvide recent graduates with an opportunity to gain a reviewed publication based on the scientific research undertaken by them during their undergraduate studies.\nCelebrate the academic achievements of recent graduates in the scientific disciplines.\nProvide a multi-disciplinary scientific forum through which undergraduate research outputs can be disseminated to students\, researchers\, academic professionals and industry.\n\nThe conference offers students an important opportunity to share their research on a national stage and engage with the process of presenting their research at a scientific conference. An opportunity made all the more valuable given the circumstances this year.
