SUMMARY:Nurturing Wellness within Teaching and Learning
DESCRIPTION:Recent times have brought our awareness of wellbeing into sharp focus. We acknowledge its importance\, but what is it exactlyand how can we practically support it within teaching and learning? \nWithin MTU Crawford we have developed a number of initiatives that we can showcase – The Creativity Tonic website\, the 5 Ways to Wellbeing Activities resource and a mobile studio bike project. In January we are hosting a Fulbright Scholar (RhondaSchaller) who will work with lecturing staff to develop a toolkit of techniques to support wellness and build resilience\, embedding positive pedagogy and mindfulness in our teaching practice. \nAn online talk and Q&A\, delivered by Rhonda Schaller\, will focus on wellbeing and positive pedagogy. SUMMARY:Operationalising SDGs\, Education for Sustainable Development and human rights
DESCRIPTION:The higher education (HE) sector is uniquely positioned to galvanise societal action on human rights\, inclusion and sustainable development through the conscious integration of Human Rights Education and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) throughout all teaching and learning. This session will be run by MTU’s UNESCO Chair\, with a guest speaker from UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development unit. It will showcase the potential for transformative change offered by the HE sector adopting an integrated and coherent response to the linked policy agendas of ESD\, the Sustainable Development Goals\, the equality diversity and inclusion agenda\, and human rights. In doing so\, we can produce graduates equipped to integrate development\, rights and inclusion into their work throughout their career trajectory\, bringing societal change. It will also highlight how public sector human rights and equality duty relates to the HE sector\, strengthening the value of teaching and learning in line with HE priorities. \nFocus of event \n\nStrategic institutional discussions about the place of teaching and learning within local policy and decision-making and how the value of teaching and learning can be strengthened\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nLeveraging partnerships between those who teach and their students\, as well as the wider educational community\, to foster collective advocacy in strengthening the value placed on teaching and learning
