Recent graduates from PG Dip Educational Leadership (Tóraíocht)
offered by Education Department in NUI Maynooth, in partnership with Professional Development Service for Teachers’ (PDST) and MSc programmes in Leadership at RCSI (Institute of Leadership) will present insights from leading change projects in the teaching & healthcare professions.
Event Details:
Postgraduates, who have completed their respective courses in the Education Department NUIM and the Institute of Leadership, RCSI will be presenting their action research/action learning projects. The seminar (symposium) will demonstrate transitions across the boundaries of the teaching and healthcare professions. The symposium fits with the ‘Transitions’ theme by making explicit similarities and differences across second-level and third-level education. The focus of one group is on preparing students for undergraduate level learning while the other group is preparing students for the world of work. Furthermore, the teaching group are full-time educators while the healthcare group are part-time. In fitting with the transitions theme both sets of educators need to be innovative and demonstrate leadership and excellence to transform the teaching and learning culture.
This is an opportunity to research the impact of such learning and to explore how the symposium might create a space for extending professional boundaries. Keynote speakers will focus their sessions around the leadership challenges and opportunities of carrying out such action-oriented projects and the importance of trust for the success of changes and improvements in practice. Contributions from the Medical and Teaching Councils will help identify key learning from a regulatory perspective when engaging others.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the symposium attendees will:
- Identify synergies across the professional groups
- Identify a network of professionals across teaching and healthcare
- Appreciate comparisons and contrasts in experiences of carrying out change projects
- Appreciate leadership and trust as a key component of any change
- Partake in the dialogue of change in the community
