Date: May 12th
Time: 13:00
Venue: Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), National University of Ireland, Galway
Presenter: Irene Glendinning, Coventry University
Event Details:
The IPPHEAE Project (Impact of Policies for Plagiarism in Higher Education Across Europe) was a European project that investigated policies and procedures in place in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the whole of Europe for detecting and preventing student plagiarism. The three year project ended in October 2013 and reports for each EU country are currently being published on the project website (ippheae.eu). The report for Ireland was compiled by Irene Glendinning of Coventry University and is now available along with an executive summary.
Surveys for the project were conducted in the Republic of Ireland during 2012 to investigate the support systems, policies and practices in place for managing aspects of academic integrity in higher education institutions. The survey focused on the experiences of bachelor and master’s degree students studying at four different Higher Education Institutions in Ireland.
In this seminar, Irene Glendinning will launch the report for Ireland. She will discuss the findings and how we compare with the other EU countries.
We hope that this event will be the start of a national discussion on the topic of plagiarism policies and procedures nationally.
Learning Outcomes:
After this seminar participants will be able to
- Draw on good practice elsewhere to promote effective policies and procedures for academic integrity, within their scope of influence;
- Propose and justify changes to current practices based on research evidence to bring about improvements to student scholarship and academic standards.
