Tony is a clinical psychologist who has specialised in autism spectrum disorders since he qualified as a clinical psychologist in England in 1975. He works in his own private practice, and is also adjunct professor at Griffith University, Queensland and senior consultant at the Minds and Hearts clinic in Brisbane. His book Asperger‚Äôs Syndrome ‚Äì A Guide for Parents and Professionals has sold over 350,000 copies and has been translated into over 25 languages. He has worked with over 8,000 individuals of all ages with Asperger’s syndrome or an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Tony presents workshops and runs training courses for parents, professionals and individuals with Asperger’s syndrome all over the world and is a prolific author of scientific papers and books on the subject.
Event Details:
The event has four interlinked components on the subject of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and is delivered by world renowned expert Tony Attwood. The four areas chosen for the seminars are 1.Managing challenging behaviour in children with autism, 2. Cognitive abilities: a different way of thinking and learning profile 3. Adolescent issues: transition and employment 4. Social skills and special interests. The objective of the seminars is to enlighten professionals and create an awareness of the issues for people with ASD and their families. The areas chosen for the seminars will be of interest to
people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), parents, educators, employers, policy makers, those working in disability related professions, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists and a wide range of other disciplines and interests.
Learning Outcomes:
1.Awareness of the difficulties that students with ASD have with transition from one education level to another or to employment.
2. Guidance from an expert in the field of Autism to a wide range of interested parties
3. Practical explanations and strategies with regard to understanding the person with autism and their behaviour.
4. Bringing together interested parties to create connections to assist students with ASD.
