Dr. Ronan Bree joins the National Forum on secondment as an Education Developer working in the strategic priority area of Teaching and Learning Enhancement Within and Across Disciplines. With a degree and PhD in Biochemistry from NUI Galway, he initially worked as a post-doctoral researcher in cancer genetics before moving to ICON Clinical Research. Since 2009, Ronan has been based in Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) as a Molecular Bioscience educator with a research focus, partnering with students to support their learning journey.
Awarded an MA in Learning & Teaching in 2014 with subsequent Certified Membership of the Association for Learning Technology (CMALT), Ronan has focused on transforming how practical sessions are assessed while introducing digital technologies around actionable feedback provision and engagement. He was DkIT’s academic lead in the National Forum supported ‘Technology Enhanced Assessment Methods in Practical Settings’ project, a multi-institutional initiative that reached 1,600 students. Ronan serves on higher education committees and advisory groups and is an editorial board member of the AISHE journal. In 2020, he was one of the National Forum and Irish Research Council’s Teaching & Learning Research Fellowship Nominees.
