SUMMARY:VR-HEd:SETS - Virtual Reality in Higher Education: Sharing Educational Tips and Stories
DESCRIPTION:This lunchtime webinar series – led by Dublin City University and supported by the National Forum for Teaching and Learning –  seeks to share practical educational insights into the application of virtual reality (VR)\, augmented reality (AR)\, mixed reality (MR) and other forms of immersive learning (IL) in higher education. \nSpeakers from different disciplines in different institutions will share their experiences of immersive learning technologies\, discussing their affordances\, highlighting practical considerations\, challenges\, and illustrating the impact on learners. \nThe objective of the webinar series is to provide a collaborative\, community-oriented space in which all those interested in VR\, AR\, MR and IL more generally can share and learn from one another. With a focus on the educational application of IL technologies\, participants will gain an understanding of how and why IL facilitates learning in and across different disciplines. This will also potentially provide opportunities for synergy and collaboration between participants and institutions. \nWhether you are a novice or an expert in immersive learning\, whether your work is focused in this area or it is simply an area of interest or intrigue\, there is something for all to pick up at these lunchtime webinars. \nYou can find more information at https://www.dcu.ie/vr-he.

SUMMARY:Virtual Exchange / Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) – a practical tool for Education for Sustainable Development
DESCRIPTION:This webinar – led by TU Dublin and supported by the National Forum for Teaching and Learning – seeks to share practical insights into the use of Virtual Exchanges (VE)\, which are also known as Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). \nMany programmes seek to expand students’ world view and their awareness of global challenges\, however in-person exchanges are expensive and also have a negative impact on carbon emissions. Virtual Exchanges are a useful tool to foster global collaboration and intercultural understanding by connecting students and educators across borders\, promoting critical thinking\, empathy\, and shared problem-solving skills essential for advancing Education for Sustainable Development.  VE also offers an opportunity to link in a meaningful manner with students and Universities in the global south. \nIn this webinar\, academics with years of experience of using Virtual Exchanges will share their experience of organising and delivering virtual exchanges. \nThe webinar will be opened by Dr Brian Gormley\, Head of Sustainability Education in TU Dublin. \nSpeakers will include: \n\nProf Niamh Murphy and Dr Jenny O’Connor\, School of Health Sciences and School of Humanities\, SETU. Their COIL initiative is called TEACH CoLab and it is with the University of Washington in Seattle.\nGeorgina Lawlor\, School of Social Sciences\, Law and Education\, TU Dublin who operates a VE in the module: Advanced Community and Youth Development Practice in collaboration with Langara College\, Vancouver\nUna Carthy\, Faculty of Law and Humanities\, ATU\, who will report on a Virtual Exchange involving Universities in Germany and Spain.\nDr Ciaran O’Carroll\, School of Marketing and Entrepreneurship\, TU Dublin who has initiated a COIL project with An Najah University in the West Bank\, Palestine.\n\nThis initiative has been supported by the National Forum for Teaching and Learning and the SATLE fund.  This event will be recorded. \nYou can find more information and register for this webinar here:  https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/538d1dc4-6695-4a7e-932e-1dc25cbf3164@766317cb-e948-4e5f-8cec-dabc8e2fd5da
