SUMMARY:Open Education Week 2021: Sharing locally\, nationally and globally
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]1-4 March 2021 marks the tenth annual Open Education Week (#OEWeek)\, a global event that seeks to raise awareness and highlight open education efforts worldwide. To mark Open Education Week 2021\, the National Forum is sharing our current open education initiatives as well as highlighting a range of open education initiatives from across the Irish higher education sector. If you want to learn more about the potential of open educational resources and practices (OER and OEP) to enhance teaching and learning\, explore the initiatives below\, contact any of the individuals mentioned\, and/or get in touch with the National Forum. Happy Open Education Week! \nNational Forum OER/OEP initiatives \nThe National Forum is strongly committed to supporting open education in Irish higher education. For example\, to facilitate sharing across the sector\, all National Forum resources are shared with a Creative Commons CC BY license\, meaning they can be retained\, reused\, revised\, remixed and redistributed by others. All National Forum resources related to OER and OEP can be found at www.teachingandlearning.ie/open. These resources include our two widely-used OER/OEP guides – the National Forum Open Licensing Toolkit and How to Choose an Open Licence – as well as recordings of past OER/OEP webinars. \nOn Friday 26 March 2021\, the National Forum will host a webinar focused on ‘Using OER and OEP for Teaching and Learning’. The webinar will share a range of materials and guidance designed to build capacity in OER and OEP in Irish higher education. All the resources and approaches shared will form the basis of a forthcoming National Forum open course. This webinar will be helpful to staff across the sector who are interested in further exploring and supporting the use of OER and OEP in their own contexts. You can register for the webinar here. \n  \nOER/OEP initiatives across the Irish higher education sector \nAn increasing focus on open education is evident across the Irish higher education sector. In February 2021\, we invited National Forum Associates and others to share news of current activities and resources at their institutions that support the use of OER and OEP. Following is a summary of these updates. While this represents just a snapshot of OER/OEP activities across the sector\, the following list gives a good idea of the range of activities and the increasing focus on OER and OEP to enhance teaching and learning in higher education. Resource links below are identified by their title\, institution\, short description\, contact name and type of open licence used. \nResources for learning about and using OER/OEP: \n\nOER Libguide (Athlone Institute of Technology) – Developed by staff at AIT Library (Shared by Celine Peignen) CC BY\nOER Libguide (Maynooth University) – Developed in a collaboration between educational technologist Dr Morag Munro and academic liaison librarian Helen Farrell (Shared by: Morag Munro) CC BY\nOER Libguide (NUI Galway) – Developed by staff at NUIG Library (Shared by: Hardy Schwamm) CC BY\nOER Subject Index (Athlone Institute of Technology) – OER Indexes for AIT’s main subjects/disciplines\, developed by library staff (Shared by Celine Peignen) CC BY.\nOpenGame Project Resources (Dublin City University) – Resources include Handbook of Successful Open Teaching Practices CC BY-NC-ND and Course Curriculum/Content CC BY-NC-SA; OpenGame is an Erasmus+ project aiming to produce an educational game promoting the use of OER and OEP (Shared by: James Brunton)\nNUI Galway OER project: Create and publish your own OER – Integrated OER publishing platform to create\, publish and promote open\, free and reusable OER; OER Grant Schemeencourages experimentation and innovation in finding and developing OER learning materials (Shared by: Cillian Joy)\n\n  \nOER to support the enhancement of teaching and learning: \n\nEDTL Approach (Irish Universities Association) – The EDTL Approach was the Enhancing Digital Teaching and Learning project’s response to the Covid-19 crisis\, collaborating across seven universities to produce a set of open resources to support effective remote teaching (Shared by Sharon Flynn) CC BY\n#Openteach: Professional Development for Open Online Educators (Dublin City University) – #Openteach aims to generate new knowledge about effective online teaching practice\, support the professional development of online teachers and effectively support online student learning (Shared by: Orna Farrell) CC BY-NC\nArtistic Doctorate Resources (University College Cork) – Aims to support students\, staff and institutions to enhance their doctoral provision for artistic research PhDs; resources developed as part of SATLE-funded project Visioning the Future: Artistic Doctorates in Ireland\, launched Feb 2021 (Shared by: Jools Gilson) CC BY-NC\nOpen Psych (Dublin City University) – Sharing OER created by intermediate level undergraduate psychology students in a Developmental and Educational Psychology module\, part of a summative assessment (OER are shared with the public with students’ informed consent) (Shared by: James Brunton) CC BY\nStudents as Partners in Assessment (Dublin City University) – Resources for staff and students highlighting some of the principles of student partnership in assessment and practical ways staff and students can work together to empower students to be involved in their own assessment processes (Shared by: Rob Lowney) CC BY\nExemplars and Case Studies of Technology-Supported Assesment & Feedback in FE and HE (Dublin City University) – Exemplars offering inspiration and guidance for staff who don’t have experience in using digital assessments\, focusing on the possibilities that digital technologies can afford (Shared by: Rob Lowney) CC BY-NC-SA\nTechnology Tools for Teaching in Higher Education (TU Dublin) – Handbook arising from an international collaboration as part of the Center for Higher Education Research\, Policy and Practice (CHERPP) to develop OER to support practitioners (Shared by: Shaun Ferns) CC BY-NC-SA\nActive Learning Strategies for Higher Education (TU Dublin) – Handbook arising from an international collaboration as part of the Center for Higher Education Research\, Policy and Practice (CHERPP) to develop OER to support practitioners (Shared by: Shaun Ferns) CC BY-NC\nDigitalEd.ie Knowledge Platform (GMIT) – Developed as part of a Connaught Ulster Alliance (GMIT\, LYIT\, IT Sligo) project\, DigitalEd.ie helps staff build digital capabilities and pedagogic expertise in order to design\, deliver and support flexible and online learning programmes.
