SUMMARY:Creating Connections On and Off Line: Education as a Shared Endeavour
DESCRIPTION:The shift to remote teaching in response to the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of the social dimension of education and trained a focus on the notion of presence at both social and pedagogical levels (Garrison\, Anderson and Archer\, 2001). For learners\, making their presence felt in an online environment may be perceived in terms of risk and teachers may struggle to generate satisfactory levels of engagement. In this seminar\, David White probes the notion of presence and students’ motivation to engage in both the on and off line environments. He highlights the importance of teachers and learners developing an understanding of education as a shared endeavour and asks us to consider what such a conception might mean in practice in both our own educational contexts and collectively in the higher education sector. \nFocus of the event \n\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nConsidering how the relational\, structural\, practical or policy aspects of teaching and learning can be valued\, supported and recognised\nGathering views and experiences from those who learn\, teach and/or lead on the shift to online/remote learning and considering what has been learned for the future about how teaching and learning can/should be valued\n\nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Nurturing Wellness within Teaching and Learning
DESCRIPTION:Recent times have brought our awareness of wellbeing into sharp focus. We acknowledge its importance\, but what is it exactlyand how can we practically support it within teaching and learning? \nWithin MTU Crawford we have developed a number of initiatives that we can showcase – The Creativity Tonic website\, the 5 Ways to Wellbeing Activities resource and a mobile studio bike project. In January we are hosting a Fulbright Scholar (RhondaSchaller) who will work with lecturing staff to develop a toolkit of techniques to support wellness and build resilience\, embedding positive pedagogy and mindfulness in our teaching practice. \nAn online talk and Q&A\, delivered by Rhonda Schaller\, will focus on wellbeing and positive pedagogy. The event will showcase existing MTU Crawford initiatives and raise awareness nationally around how wellbeing can be nurtured within teaching and learning.    It will also provide space to consider the US and Irish perspectives in this context. \nFocus of the event \n\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nConsidering how the relational\, structural\, practical or policy aspects of teaching and learning can be valued\, supported andrecognised\n\nRegistration \nhttps://telcit.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEvcu2trDkqGdw2NRCNTQvvoyPWCqL9LWfQ

SUMMARY:Transform EDU Week Event 1 - Developing a Transformative Education Framework for Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:Transform-EDU aims to place transformative learning centre-stage in higher education. The project has focused on innovative approaches to learning where elements of structured programmes\, co and extra-curricular events are purposefully integrated to create the rich learning environments that are required to foster transformative learning. \nWe present a framework that recognises that\, whilst learning outcomes are mostly achievable in structured discipline-specific academic curricula\, 21st Century Graduate profiles demanded by employers are dynamic\, requiring agile learning environments to produce graduates who meet skills demanded by enterprise. \nWe highlight TU Dublin’s Student Transformative Learning Record (STLR) as a means of capturing and authenticating transformative learning that takes place\, under the following competencies: civil knowledge and skills\, global culture competence\, health and wellbeing development\, leadership\, teamwork\, research and innovation competence building. We highlight the student and staff voice during our event. We outline examples of co-curricular events that support exposure\, integration and transformation. \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Trauma Informed Education in HEI's: Passing Craze or Best Practice?
DESCRIPTION:Trauma Informed Education (TIE) has long been encouraged in primary and secondary school settings. How might we apply the precepts of TIE in a third level context? Do ‘content warnings’ infringe upon academic freedom? What responsibilities reside in the lecture halls when covering possible sensitive/unsettling content? For the Lecturer? For the students? Dr. Catriona O’Toole (Maynooth University) shares her work around this interesting topic. \nRegistration \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Launch: Interactive Output from Reimagining Assessment Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:DCU and UL are delighted to launch the interactive tool designed by educators and learners\, for educators and learners\, through engagement in a national community of practice. It was evident through conversations with educators and learners that there are diverse perspectives on assessment in terms of its role\, value and approach across the sector. This resource aims to bridge the perceived gap through sharing examples and resources on the process and product of assessment. It focusses on the three critical elements of assessment identified in discussions: workload\, groups\, and feedback. \nProf Susan Deeley will deliver a keynote address on the balancing act that is assessment from the perspective of the students and the educators. Following this\, there will be an overview of the resource with an opportunity for participants to engage with\, and comment on it. The event will conclude with a plenary Q&A \nFocus of the event \n\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nLeveraging partnerships between those who teach and their students\, as well as the wider educational community\, to foster collective advocacy in strengthening the value placed on teaching and learning\n\nClick here to register
