DESCRIPTION:The School of Allied Health (SAH)\, UL has received awards for the Disciplinary Excellence in Learning\, Teaching and Assessment approach to Interprofessional Education (IPE). As national IPE leaders\, we will showcase our teaching and learning through our reflection of developing an interprofessional curriculum.   The pivotal event of this showcase will be an expert-led IPE training workshop.  It will focus on the development of faculty capacity to sustain and enhance the existing IPE curricular activities and to lead on the development of a community of practice across health sciences faculty. \nBy the end of the interactive workshop participants will: \n\ndevelop a plan and the materials for mixed group facilitation training;\nexchange knowledge\, experiences and ideas about the sustainability of quality interprofessional experiences;\ndevelop an awareness of the qualities and traits of confident facilitators.\n\nThis keynote event will be supported by a number of sessions offered by SAH staff and students. \nFocus of the event \n\nStrategic institutional discussions about the place of teaching and learning within local policy and decision-making and how the value of teaching and learning can be strengthened\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nConsidering how the relational\, structural\, practical or policy aspects of teaching and learning can be valued\, supported and recognised

SUMMARY:Operationalising SDGs\, Education for Sustainable Development and human rights
DESCRIPTION:The higher education (HE) sector is uniquely positioned to galvanise societal action on human rights\, inclusion and sustainable development through the conscious integration of Human Rights Education and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) throughout all teaching and learning. This session will be run by MTU’s UNESCO Chair\, with a guest speaker from UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development unit. It will showcase the potential for transformative change offered by the HE sector adopting an integrated and coherent response to the linked policy agendas of ESD\, the Sustainable Development Goals\, the equality diversity and inclusion agenda\, and human rights. In doing so\, we can produce graduates equipped to integrate development\, rights and inclusion into their work throughout their career trajectory\, bringing societal change. DESCRIPTION:This event sees the launch of UCC’s SDG Toolkit and includes inputs from UCC President\, Professor John O’Halloran\, UCC staff and students as they share their reflections on the need for and experience of integrating the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the curriculum. \nThe SDG toolkit is a web-based resource developed to assist teaching staff to integrate the SDGs into teaching and learning. DESCRIPTION:This seminar will draw on the experiences of academic and teaching-support staff to identify what has been learnt from the period of emergency online teaching and learning and how Maynooth as an institution can capitalise on this. Utilising a World Café event\, we will problematise questions of what worked well and what didn’t\, by reflecting on the plurality of experiences\, as well as the potential benefits and challenges of digital teaching and learning. The seminar will not only aid in knowledge exchange and the development of an institutional approach to the use of digital technologies in teaching and learning but also\, and importantly\, provide an opportunity for reflection upon areas of future research and collaboration to fully realise the potential of digital technologies to enhance pedagogy at Maynooth. SUMMARY:Valuing Teaching and Learning about sacred artefacts from the World’s major religions in Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:This innovative and collaborative National Forum one day seminar proposes a dialogical framework involving educational\, cultural and religious experts as they explore the role of religious artefacts in creative teaching and learning environments. For this event Mary Immaculate College would partner with the Chester Beatty Library\, Dublin City Interfaith Forum and the MidWest Interfaith Network to ensure that educators could explore the opportunities and challenges of using religious artefacts in HEIs and in a range of educational contexts. With input from the NCCA\, religious thinkers and leaders\, academics and museum educators\, this one day seminar would encourage educators to explore the relevance and potency of pedagogies using sacred artefacts for creative and effective teaching and learning in diverse educational contexts (from primary to third level). To enable as many educators and members of faith communities as possible to access this event\, keynote presentations will be live-streamed and recorded. SUMMARY:Inter-Institutional Hybrid Classrooms: A CHARM European University Perspective
DESCRIPTION:The European Universities initiative offers joint curricula across multiple university campuses using an innovative\, challenge based\, and student-centered approach. Teaching and learning practices for these universities of the future need to be aligned with a technology enhanced\, transdisciplinary approach across multiple European locations. A major challenge is how to deliver inter-institutional modules across locations at the same time. A hybrid classroom solves this challenge by offering a space for students to learn both locally and remotely\, and is an ideal model for teaching across an inter-institutional programme. \nTrinity College Dublin is a partner of the CHARM European University\, and is delivering a Master’s in Global Challenges for Sustainability with the University of Montpellier\, Utrecht University\, Eötvös Loránd University\, and University of Barcelona in 2021 – 2023. CHARM-EU hybrid classrooms are designed to support inter-institutional teaching\, including one-to-one\, one-to-many and many-to-many scenarios. \nIn this workshop\, participants will be introduced to module design\, development and implementation across an inter-institutional postgraduate Master’s programme\, and how this design was supported by a hybrid classroom approach. A focus will be on the structures used to support inter-institutional module design with transdisciplinary stakeholders where the hybrid classroom is used as a teaching environment across five European Universities. \nSharing our experiences of the inter-institutional and hybrid teaching modality of CHARM-EU module development will be of interest to any higher education administrative\, teaching\, and management staff working in inter-institutional teaching environments. DESCRIPTION:This special VITAL event will celebrate the launch of the DigitalEd Case Study Collection. The DigitalEd Case Study publication will showcase exemplars of online and blended course design outputs produced in GMIT\, IT Sligo and LYIT including; reflections from the digital champion experience; Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the digital world; the DigitalEd transformation journey and how it has supported the development of a culture of digital transformation across the CUA. \nEstablished in January 2020\, the CUA Digital Champion network supports colleagues to develop their digital teaching and learning skills and engagement with a suite of DigitalEd.ie resources and professional development pathways. DESCRIPTION:ELEVATE was a national forum SATLE funded project focused on the creation of bespoke\, spatially immersive\, Virtual Reality\, 3D environments where students could physically and conceptually interact with cellular and molecular biology components to enhance their understanding of same. SUMMARY:Developing a Best Practice Framework for Engaging External Practitioners and Tutors (online event)
DESCRIPTION:Challenges exist in engaging external/practitioner tutors to teach in HEIs\, i.e. those experienced industry or professional services experts who are contracted by the HEI\, to deliver modules\, particularly on professional education programmes. \nThe BLASST framework (Harvey\, 2014) is a set of national (Australian) benchmarking standards to systematise good practice for learning and teaching with part-time or sessional staff. DESCRIPTION:Dr Eithne Hunt hosts the Brainpower showcase and launch of the Brainpower digital badge. \nBookended by puberty and culturally defined adult roles\, scientists and researchers now agree that adolescence extends from age 10-24 years. To realise student success\, higher education institutions must take into account that the majority of their undergraduate students are still adolescents\, without fully developed cognitive\, social\, emotional and self-regulatory capacities\, living and learning in a socio-cultural environment that offers less external regulation than ever before. Created by a team of academics and scientists from occupational science and occupational therapy\, applied psychology and neuroscience\, with contributions from students and higher education staff\, Brainpower is a free\, online\, self-paced course\, focusing on harnessing the power and potential of adolescent brain and behaviour for enhanced learning\, wellbeing and student success in higher education. \nAlthough targeted mainly at academic and academic support staff in higher education\, Brainpower is likely to be of interest to staff across further and higher education\, nationally and internationally\, as well as parents\, school teachers\, coaches and all those who contribute to the lives of young people. SUMMARY:MU Celebration & Cultivation of Community Engaged & Work Related Learning
DESCRIPTION:This event will launch and celebrate a suite of Project Live exemplars that showcase community engaged and work related learning in action\, as well as welcome our 2021/22 Project Live partners. Launched by the Maynooth University Experiential Learning Office in 2020\,  Project Live is an initiative that facilitates collaboration between external stakeholders\, academics\, and students. Academics are connected with stakeholders from across the community\, public and private sectors who have a specific need that they would like Maynooth University students to work on. Academics work with stakeholders to create a student project within a module that addresses the identified need. SUMMARY:Launch of IADT's VITAL Programme. Opening of 'What makes a Great Educator/Learner?' Installations in the Student Canteen. Live Event.
DESCRIPTION:IADT has a vibrant and creative student body\, supported by an excellent academic staff. The prompts: ‘What Makes a Great Educator?’ and ‘What Makes a Great Student?’ will be given in real-time and in an online survey.  The real-time prompts will be on the glass walls strategically placed on campus\, visible to all students and staff for contributions.  The installations are documented. \nThe project will promote discussion and reflection on the value of T&L by both the students and staff; the public nature of the work will enhance the celebration of the work. \nAdditionally IADT will be highlighting the LEP projects from 2019 and the new proposed work incoming from this year’s call. \nFocus of the event \n\nStrategic institutional discussions about the place of teaching and learning within local policy and decision-making and how the value of teaching and learning can be strengthened\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nGathering views and experiences from those who learn\, teach and/or lead on the shift to online/remote learning and considering what has been learned for the future about how teaching and learning can/should be valued\nLeveraging partnerships between those who teach and their students\, as well as the wider educational community\, to foster collective advocacy in strengthening the value placed on teaching and learning\n\nClick here to register
