SUMMARY:Advancing Digital Pedagogy at Maynooth University: Reflecting on the Move Online
DESCRIPTION:This seminar will draw on the experiences of academic and teaching-support staff to identify what has been learnt from the period of emergency online teaching and learning and how Maynooth as an institution can capitalise on this. Utilising a World Café event\, we will problematise questions of what worked well and what didn’t\, by reflecting on the plurality of experiences\, as well as the potential benefits and challenges of digital teaching and learning. The seminar will not only aid in knowledge exchange and the development of an institutional approach to the use of digital technologies in teaching and learning but also\, and importantly\, provide an opportunity for reflection upon areas of future research and collaboration to fully realise the potential of digital technologies to enhance pedagogy at Maynooth. This will be further enabled by the production of a report based on the data generated by the World Café discussion. \nFocus of the event \n\nGathering views and experiences from those who learn\, teach and/or lead on the shift to online/remote learning and considering what has been learned for the future about how teaching and learning can/should be valued\n\nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Valuing Teaching and Learning about sacred artefacts from the World’s major religions in Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:This innovative and collaborative National Forum one day seminar proposes a dialogical framework involving educational\, cultural and religious experts as they explore the role of religious artefacts in creative teaching and learning environments. For this event Mary Immaculate College would partner with the Chester Beatty Library\, Dublin City Interfaith Forum and the MidWest Interfaith Network to ensure that educators could explore the opportunities and challenges of using religious artefacts in HEIs and in a range of educational contexts. With input from the NCCA\, religious thinkers and leaders\, academics and museum educators\, this one day seminar would encourage educators to explore the relevance and potency of pedagogies using sacred artefacts for creative and effective teaching and learning in diverse educational contexts (from primary to third level). To enable as many educators and members of faith communities as possible to access this event\, keynote presentations will be live-streamed and recorded. A resource of on-line pedagogies drawing on sacred artefacts in the Chester Beatty Collection will be made freely available for educators on the CB website after this event. \nFocus of the event \n\nTo explore learner-centred methodologies for active learning (in HEIs and primary/post-primary ITE programmes) through handling sacred objects\nTo understand the importance of sacred objects in the lives of believers from the major world’s religions through first-hand testimonies\nTo dialogue with educators about the opportunities and challenges involved in creatively exploring sacred objects in learning environments\nTo inform professional practice on ways the Chester Beatty on-line and in-house collections can scaffold learners’ understandings of belief diverse communities\nTo foster open\, respectful critical engagement with sacred traditions in contemporary Ireland\nTo generate innovative materials to enhance pedagogies for teaching and learning about religions and beliefs.\nTo build a network of faith members and educators for on-going collaboration and educational debate about sacred traditions and museum-based collections in Ireland.\n\nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Inter-Institutional Hybrid Classrooms: A CHARM European University Perspective
DESCRIPTION:The European Universities initiative offers joint curricula across multiple university campuses using an innovative\, challenge based\, and student-centered approach. Teaching and learning practices for these universities of the future need to be aligned with a technology enhanced\, transdisciplinary approach across multiple European locations. A major challenge is how to deliver inter-institutional modules across locations at the same time. A hybrid classroom solves this challenge by offering a space for students to learn both locally and remotely\, and is an ideal model for teaching across an inter-institutional programme. \nTrinity College Dublin is a partner of the CHARM European University\, and is delivering a Master’s in Global Challenges for Sustainability with the University of Montpellier\, Utrecht University\, Eötvös Loránd University\, and University of Barcelona in 2021 – 2023. CHARM-EU hybrid classrooms are designed to support inter-institutional teaching\, including one-to-one\, one-to-many and many-to-many scenarios. \nIn this workshop\, participants will be introduced to module design\, development and implementation across an inter-institutional postgraduate Master’s programme\, and how this design was supported by a hybrid classroom approach. A focus will be on the structures used to support inter-institutional module design with transdisciplinary stakeholders where the hybrid classroom is used as a teaching environment across five European Universities. \nSharing our experiences of the inter-institutional and hybrid teaching modality of CHARM-EU module development will be of interest to any higher education administrative\, teaching\, and management staff working in inter-institutional teaching environments. It will also be of interest to educational technologists and instructional designers seeking novel means of teaching innovation in their own universities. \nFocus of the event \n\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nConsidering the place of teaching and learning in evolving institutional contexts\, e.g.\, in the context of institutional mergers\n\nClick here to register

SUMMARY:A celebration of excellence in Teaching & Learning
DESCRIPTION:Dublin City University (DCU) is committed to a transformative student learning experience\, specifically cultivating an environment that values and recognises the importance of teaching. Accordingly\, DCU is a member of Advance HE and in 2021 launched the first supported (online) journey to Fellowship which recognises excellence in teaching and learning. DCU now has over 50 Fellows across all faculties\, with some applicants funded through a National Forum SATLE project. \nThis event seeks to celebrate these Fellows’ international recognition of a commitment to professionalism in teaching and learning. All DCU staff will be invited to attend and hear Fellows reflections on the journey. These experiences will be captured in a ‘vox pop’ style video outlining how best to document and share the impact of teaching and learning initiatives. Additionally\, a Word Cloud graphic will be created from successful Fellow applications to promote and support attainment of this teaching excellence recognition. \nFocus of the event \n\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nGathering views and experiences from those who learn\, teach and/or lead on the shift to online/remote learning and considering what has been learned for the future about how teaching and learning can/should be valued\n\nRegistration \nClick here to register
