SUMMARY:Webinar: Developing Enabling Policies for Digital and Open Teaching and Learning
DESCRIPTION:Taking place on Thursday 10 June 2021\, this webinar will share developments and invite feedback on the project to develop a new National Forum ‘Guide to Developing Enabling Policies for Digital and Open Teaching & Learning’. \nInstitutional policy-making can\, and should\, engage individuals across the organisation; policy-making is not the remit of senior managers only. This is especially so when the subject of those policies are topics related to digital and open teaching and learning (T&L)\, e.g. Lecture Recording\, Virtual Classrooms\, Assessment\, Open Educational Resources. \nIn this webinar\, as in institutional policy-making\, we would like to encourage as wide a range of people as possible to join the conversation. This might include people who are already involved in developing digital\, open and/or T&L policies\, as well as those who would like to be involved in the consultation or development of such policies\, or policy briefs\, procedures\, guidelines. All higher education staff and students are invited to participate. \nThe new National Forum ‘Guide to Developing Enabling Policies for Digital and Open Teaching & Learning’ is currently being developed\, drawing on wide consultation including workshops that took place across the sector in 2019\, as well as conversations with many individuals who have been developing and updating institutional policies since March 2020\, taking into account the new context of remote/online T&L. \nDuring this webinar\, the National Forum will share key aspects of the proposed guide and invite your feedback on important questions\, including: \n\nWhat key policy areas (in Digital/Open Teaching & Learning) should be addressed in the guide?\nWhat content and tools would you expect to find in the guide\, in order for it to be most useful?\nWho is involved in policy development/consultation at your institution or organisation?\nWhat are the biggest challenges for policy development at your institution or organisation?\n\nWebinar speakers: \n\nCatherine Cronin\, Strategic Education Developer\, National Forum\nChloe Power\, Student Associate Intern\, National Forum\nNiamh Brennan\, Programme Manager for Research Informatics\, Trinity College Dublin\nTony Murphy\, Head of Quality Enhancement and Innovation in Teaching and Learning\, Dublin Business School\nSarah O’Toole\, Educational Developer\, Limerick Institute of Technology\n\nRegistration for this webinar is available here. \nThis webinar is part of the National Forum’s 2021 National Webinar Series. You can view details of other events in the Series here.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Building a Shared Understanding of Agile Curricula. Part 2
DESCRIPTION:This National Forum webinar\, open to the entire higher education community\, will focus on the key features of an agile and innovative curriculum and continue the conversation initiated at our first webinar on this theme in April. \n\nIn this webinar\, we present summary analysis of the contributions of speakers and participants at the first event in April 2021. Next\, we will hear from four of the HCI Pillar 3 Project Leads and how they are developing agile curricula through their work. We will hear perspectives of employers and how these interact with the process of designing agile curricula in higher education in Ireland. We will conclude with a status update on the key themes emerging from both webinars\, and how these will inform the upcoming National Forum Insight publication on agile curriculum and agree next steps on developing a national understanding of Agile curriculum. \n\nWe invite you to consider these questions ahead of the Webinar:\n\n\nWhat is your definition of what an Agile Curriculum is?\nWhat would be the top two features of an Agile Curriculum?\nDo you think it is important to have a national understanding of Agile Curriculum to support current developments under the HCI Projects e.g. microcredentials?\n\n\nChair:\nDr Jim Murray\, THEA and National Forum Board Member\n\nSpeakers:\n\n\nProfessor Jacqueline McCormack\, Vice-President (Online Development) at IT Sligo – Higher Education 4.0 Project.\nDr Marguerite Nyhan\, Senior Lecturer and Principal Investigator\, School of Engineering & Architecture\, MaREI Environmental Research Institute\, University College Cork – Sustainable Futures Project\nDr Ken Thomas\, Head of School of Engineering\, Waterford Institute of Technology – AMASE Project\nDr Blánaid White\, Dean of Strategic Learning Innovation\, DCU – DCU Futures Project\nMr Adam Weatherley\, Head of Learning and Development\, Irish SME Association (ISME)\n\n\nRegistration for this webinar is available here. \nThis webinar is part of the National Forum’s 2021 National Webinar Series. You can view details of other events in the Series here.

SUMMARY:Life Long Learning in Pharmacy 2021
DESCRIPTION:The National Forum is delighted to support the upcoming Life Long Learning in Pharmacy International Conference 2021. This will be a virtual conference\, taking place from Sunday 27th to Wednesday 30th June 2021\, hosted from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland\, Dublin. \nThe LLLP conferences bring together international and national colleagues to share their interest and research in the area of pharmacy education and professional development. The conference facilitates participant access to high quality educational programs\, internationally significant research and development\, and world-renowned leaders in the field. \nThe 2021 conference will be a particularly special one\, because the opportunity to connect at LLLP 2020 was missed due to COVID-19. The experiences and learnings delegates will have to share from the past year will guarantee rich conference content. Added to this\, there will be the special connection\, collaboration and community\, which have now become hallmarks of the LLLP conferences. Delegates who have previously attended LLLP will have the opportunity to build on established relationships with international colleagues as well as form new connections. New participants will find a warm welcome into a new international network. \nFor more information on the conference keynotes\, programme\, key dates and registration\, see here.

SUMMARY:Competencies\, Expectations and Learning Contracts in Work-Based Assessment: How are they related?
DESCRIPTION:The National Forum\, in partnership with Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI)\, will host an online webinar entitled ‘Competencies\, Expectations and Learning Contracts in Work-Based Assessment: How are they related?’ on Thursday\, 23 September 2021\, 12.00-13.30. \nAssessment of work-integrated learning can be challenging in relation to the: \n\nExpectation of what is to be assessed in advance of the experience (the level and number of competencies)\,\nThe diverse learning opportunities provided by the placement/experience for these competencies\, and the\nUnique learning goals of the students.\n\nRecent research\, by Associate Professor Geraldine O’Neill as part of her National Forum Teaching and Learning (NFTL) Research Fellowship\, has highlighted some initial findings that may help understand the relationship between these three challenges. For example\, disciplinary groups in the research highlighted:  a) the importance of the clarification of expectations in work-based assessment; b) the need to avoid over-specification of competencies; c) the value of inter-stakeholder dialogue; and d) the creation of context specific learning contracts. \nThis webinar will present some of the initial findings from this NFTL Research Fellowship and will support discussion around their implications for practice and policy. \nRecording: https://hub.teachingandlearning.ie/resource/competencies-expectations-and-learning-contracts-in-work-based-assessment-how-are-they-related/
