SUMMARY:Launch: Interactive Output from Reimagining Assessment Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:DCU and UL are delighted to launch the interactive tool designed by educators and learners\, for educators and learners\, through engagement in a national community of practice. It was evident through conversations with educators and learners that there are diverse perspectives on assessment in terms of its role\, value and approach across the sector. This resource aims to bridge the perceived gap through sharing examples and resources on the process and product of assessment. It focusses on the three critical elements of assessment identified in discussions: workload\, groups\, and feedback. \nProf Susan Deeley will deliver a keynote address on the balancing act that is assessment from the perspective of the students and the educators. Following this\, there will be an overview of the resource with an opportunity for participants to engage with\, and comment on it. The event will conclude with a plenary Q&A \nFocus of the event \n\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nLeveraging partnerships between those who teach and their students\, as well as the wider educational community\, to foster collective advocacy in strengthening the value placed on teaching and learning\n\nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Construction Education - Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR & AR)
DESCRIPTION:Virtual environments and augmented reality offer the construction industry the luxury of experiencing and coordinating proposed projects before committing to the real thing. Furthermore\, it provides educators with another tool to engage students in immersive digital building projects within the safety of the classroom. This event presents some of the VR and AR technologies being explored in the delivery of courses in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction at LYIT. \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Transform EDU Week Event 4: Contract Cheating – Valuing Teaching\, Learning and Education
DESCRIPTION:Contract cheating represents a challenge to the academic integrity of the educational system. Although one single solution to contract cheating does not exist\, the importance of an educative approach is recognised to ensure that students benefit from the learning opportunities offered to them. \nThis lead presentation for the Transform-EDU Project held during Valuing Ireland’s Teaching & Learning Week will review the characteristics of contract cheating\, including how educators can recognise breaches. The presentation will also consider opportunities available for educators to mitigate the risks of students succumbing to contract cheating\, including how this topic can be taught to students and how preventative measures can be put into place. Time will be available for questions and discussion. \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Recognise\, Reflect\, Respond: a multi-campus Arts & Humanities colloquium
DESCRIPTION:The disciplines of the emerging Faculty of Arts and Humanities wish to best recognise practice in online learning due to the pandemic\, take time to reflect on the experience\, and respond in the context of a Colloquium\, to inform strategic planning for teaching and learning across the Faculty.\nFor lecturers and students alike\, online learning and teaching has been a new endeavour. Previous data show that both learners and lecturers want more online approaches to learning and teaching\, but post-pandemic data highlight diminished student enjoyment and engagement in the online pandemic learning experience.\nThis colloquium seeks to bring teaching\, teaching support staff\, and learners together to share experiences within the context of Arts and Humanities. We will hear about the lived experience of online pandemic learning from student and lecturer perspectives. This event supports a response to further the future teaching and learning vision and mission of the emerging faculty. \nFocus of the event \n\nStrategic institutional discussions about the place of teaching and learning within local policy and decision-making and how the value of teaching and learning can be strengthened\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work\nGathering views and experiences from those who learn\, teach and/or lead on the shift to online/remote learning and considering what has been learned for the future about how teaching and learning can/should be valued\nConsidering the place of teaching and learning in evolving institutional contexts\, e.g.\, in the context of institutional mergers\nLeveraging partnerships between those who teach and their students\, as well as the wider educational community\, to foster collective advocacy in strengthening the value placed on teaching and learning

SUMMARY:Enhanced patient outcomes: Celebrating Postgraduate Nurse/Midwife Education
DESCRIPTION:Postgraduate nurse/midwife education has been shown to enhance patient outcomes through the provision of care by nurses/midwives who have more knowledge\, an increased ability to critically think their way through the care patients receive and possess an ability to decipher the best evidence to inform and impact patient care and resultant outcomes. The Global Pandemic has illuminated the importance of highly skilled front line nurses/midwives educated at Postgraduate level and the importance of HEIs being able to provide relevant and accessible courses of study. \nThis three-hour online event facilitated via MS Teams brings together academic/clinical educators from across the RCSI hospital group and associated clinical partners.  We are inviting five-minute poster presentations from individual educators highlighting innovations and enhancements in nurse/midwife education. This event includes student engagement/reflections and will facilitate reflection on what we have learned\, what good teaching and learning looks like and how it can be supported into the future \n  \nFocus of the event \n\nSharing and valuing ongoing teaching and learning enhancement work

SUMMARY:Unlocking the student journey through higher education
DESCRIPTION:The evolution of higher education from a grade centred to a learning experience driven approach is evident in the increasing number of journal article publications on topics such as student engagement and learning analytics. Today\, there is a more inclusive understanding of the higher education journey that extends beyond grades\, and retention and progression rates to consider diverse priorities and perspectives\, and experiences outside of the classroom. \nIn this tailored hybrid event for staff and students\, four student experience experts will present findings in domains that include wellbeing\, engagement\, partnership\, and learning. The programme will also feature a presentation from Unlock (unlocking student engagement through learning analytics) and an opportunity to discuss findings with speakers. For in-person attendees\, a break will be included to encourage networking and to foster collaboration and partnership across the four domains. \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Transform EDU Week Event 5: Developing Sustainability Literate Graduates - Adapting the UN Sulitest to Classroom and Aligning the Curriculum to the SDGs
DESCRIPTION:Universities have been mandated under SDG 4.7.1 to develop sustainability literature graduates. By sustainability literacy\, we refer to the knowledge\, skills\, and mindsets that help compel an individual to become deeply committed to building a sustainable future (Décamps\, 2017). \nIn this webinar we explore the transformative nature of education for sustainability and underpinning reflective pedagogy. We outline a whole-of-university approach to ensuring that it is embedded across the curricula. \nWe highlight approaches to measurement and evaluation and showcase the use of the UN’s sustainability literacy test or SULITEST www.sulitest.org with reflective practice in contextualising sustainability literacy across different disciplines. \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Street Law at LYIT: Student-Led Public Legal Education For All
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will comprise an introductory overview in the potential of Street Law as a sustainable form of public legal education for school and other community organisations. Public legal education includes all activities which provide opportunities for the education of members of the public on the law and legal issues of concern to them. In addition it is a form of civic education where the audiences also learn how the law works\, their role in it and potential career opportunities. Street Law in LYIT has been particularly successful with second level transition year groups as it specifically focuses on audiences who would not otherwise have access to this information. This webinar will outline the methodology applied in the Street Law sessions\, how and why it works\, and showcase the successful experience of the LYIT law students in the use of this method.
