SUMMARY:Aligning learning outcomes; teaching-learning strategies and assessment
DESCRIPTION:Presenter:\n\nDr. Kevin O’Rourke DIT\n\nModule design and assessment methods have a profound effect on the learning strategies adopted by students. Effective design can ensure that programmes meet identified educational needs and that teaching methods and assessment strategies are selected to achieve programme objectives.\n\nRethinking your assessment strategies can help to either make traditional methods of assessment more efficient or to shift more of the responsibility of assessment to the student.\n\nThis workshop will focus on the process of deciding the “shape” or “configuration” of a module from learning outcomes stage through development of teaching-learning experiences and effective assessment.  The place of a module within a programme suite of modules will also be explored. This workshop is therefore particularly suitable for programme teams\n\nKey areas of focus will include:\n\n-Assessment for learning – what kinds of knowledge\, skills\, abilities\, values are we seeking evidence of?\n\n-Constructive alignment –designing methods of assessing students with a view to increasing effectiveness in enhancing your students’ learning\n\n-Reflect on current practice\, and plan for an assessment redesign that works for academics and students\n\n \n\nLearning Outcomes:\n\nAt the end of this workshop participants will be able to:\n-review the main principles of effective assessment and constructive alignment\n-explore different methods of assessing students with a view to -enhancing their learning\nreflect on current practice\, and plan for redesign
