SUMMARY:Workshop: connecting higher education\, teacher training and schools to advance education for the digital and green transitions
DESCRIPTION:This international peer learning workshop is organised by the OECD Higher Education Policy Team\, in collaboration with the European Commission and Ireland’s National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. The National Forum operates under the aegis of the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and is responsible for leading and advising on the enhancement of teaching and learning in Irish higher education. \nLearning from experiences in Ireland and internationally\, the workshop will examine two questions: \n\nHow can higher education support the integration of digital and green competencies in initial teacher education programmes and activities?\nHow can science communication contribute to fostering a more continual collaboration between teacher education institutions\, higher education and school practitioners?\n\nThe Education and Innovation Practice Community (EIPC) \nThis workshop seeks to contribute to international peer learning in the Education and Innovation Practice Community (EIPC)\, which the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education\, Youth\, Sport and Culture (Unit C.1 – Innovation and EIT) launched in partnership with the OECD (in late 2022). EIPC is a flagship initiative under the European Commission’s New European Innovation Agenda. Please click here to join the EIPC network. SUMMARY:Cultivating the next generation of green and digital innovators – the critical role of mainstream higher education
DESCRIPTION:International Online Knowledge Exchange (Thursday 11 January 2024\, 14:30 – 16:15 CET / 13:30 – 15:15 Dublin Time) \nZoom Videoconference (click here to register) \nThe OECD and the European Commission (EC) have joined efforts to establish an Education and Innovation Practice Community (EIPC). The EIPC seeks to boost dialogue and advance understanding of the competencies that help to trigger and shape innovation for the digital and green transitions\, as well as “deep tech” innovation\, as foreseen under the New European Innovation Agenda of the EC\, Flagship 4: Fostering\, attracting and retaining deep tech talent (europa.eu). This webinar will examine how higher education institutions\, in their role as providers of advanced education and skills\, are adapting mainstream degree programmes to build and deepen the competencies needed for digital\, green\, and deep-tech innovation. It will also reflect on how public policy can support these efforts across OECD and EU countries. \nView Schedule \nView Background Note

SUMMARY:Open Education: Supporting Policy and Practice
DESCRIPTION:A national event informing the strategic development of open education in teaching and learning across Ireland’s higher education sector \nMunster Technological University\, Bishopstown Campus\nWednesday\, 20 May 2026\, 10.00AM – 4.30PM \nAbout the Event\nThis national event brings together colleagues from across Ireland’s higher education sector to explore current priorities and emerging practices in open education . It is framed in response to the HEA Strategy for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education\, which identifies open education as a strategic enabler of collaboration\, innovation\, and inclusive access across the sector. \nThe Strategy places particular emphasis on strengthening collaboration\, sustaining and expanding the National Resource Hub\, and supporting the development of institutional open education policies and practices. This event offers a structured opportunity for institutions to engage directly with those priorities\, to reflect on progress to date\, share practice\, and contribute to the coordinated development of open educational resources (OER) and open educational practices (OEP) in line with the Strategy. \nThe programme will include a keynote address\, sectoral case studies\, and interactive workshops. These sessions will examine practical implementation challenges\, explore sustainable models for embedding openness within institutional policy and practice\, and inform ongoing national development under the HEA Strategy. \nFind our more: https://hub.teachingandlearning.ie/hea-open-education-supporting-policy-and-practice/
