SUMMARY:Innovation Assessment Opportunities in Enterprise LMS Implementations
DESCRIPTION:[dt_quote type="blockquote" font_size="big" animation="none" background="plain"]Click here to view the Seminar Report[/dt_quote]\n\n \n\nPresenters:\nDiego del Blanco Orobitg. Development Manager\, Scriba.\nEamonn Fitzgerald\, Education Technology\, University of Limerick and other Shannon Consortium inputs.\n \n\n‘Currently most learning management systems (LMS) in the market are relatively mature and stable. LMSs systems are increasingly treated like other large-scale enterprise-wide applications. This means that the systems are managed much more conservatively – with fewer upgrades and less flexibility for instructional content developers who want to experiment with new software\, capabilities\, approaches or content.’(Severance\, Hanss et al\, 2009:1). Providing far greater flexibility for teachers to tailor learning tools to best fit their teaching goals and the learning requirements of a particular learning cohort was seen as an area of importance to be developed. Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) first released in 2010 by IMS Global with LTI v1.2 released in January 2015 enables 3rd party tool access via the LMS without the largescale development costs or the long lead times associated with the upgrade of enterprise wide systems.\n\n3rd party assessment tools integrated using LTI\, leveraging the ‘always on’ nature of the LMS environment can present options not previously available within enterprise LMS implementations. Students can solve problems in a step by step fashion with targeted feedback scalable for larger classes. Formative assessment techniques can be used to maximise student learning opportunities while learning analytics can provide extensive insights in progress and level including automatically graded progress tests.\n\nThis seminar will consider the charecteristics of an enterprise LMS that facilitate assessments in Teaching & Learning and how these can be extended through LTI integration of 3rd party tools e.g. Turnitin\, MathLab.\n\nThe seminar will be led by Diego del Blanco Orobitg. Diego is Development Manager with Scriba. Scriba is a technology company that delivers teaching and learning systems that empower students and educators to extend and reinvent education. In 2014\, Diego won the Apereo Fellow prize for his work in the Sakai Open Source Project.\n\nThe seminar will also incorporate examples of 3rd assessment tool use across the Shannon Consortium and what this brings to the teaching & learning process.\n\n \n\nLearning Outcomes:\n\nAppreciate the assessment opportunities provided by LTI tool extentions to the LMS.\nBecome familar with the value of learner analytics in Assessment FOR\, OF and AS Learning.\nUnderstand the value of building flexiable T&L opportunities on reliable 'always on' enterprise infrastructure.
