SUMMARY:Enhancing Assessment Feedback for Learning
DESCRIPTION:[dt_quote type="blockquote" font_size="big" animation="none" background="plain"]Click here to view the Seminar Report[/dt_quote]\n\n \n\nPresenter:\n\nProfessor Carol Evans is Professor of Higher Education at Southampton Education School. She is a Principal Fellow (PFHEA) and National Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.\nCarol is President of the Education\, Learning\, Styles\, Individual differences Network (ELSIN); an Associate Editor for British Journal of Educational Psychology Journal and a visiting Fellow at the UCL\, Institute of Education\, London.\nShe is passionate about enhancing learning and teaching in higher education\, school and workplace environments. Her current projects include research on resilience in learning and student engagement in learning.\nCarol is especially interested in the role of individual differences in learning and her research has focused on the application of an informed understanding of cognitive styles to learning and teaching and enhancing assessment feedback practice across disciplines.\nhttp://www.southampton.ac.uk/education/about/staff/cae1e14.page?\n\n \n\nIn 2013 Carol Evans published an article entitled ‘Making Sense of Assessment Feedback in Higher Education’ which provides a comprehensive literature review of the landscape of feedback\, including peer feedback\, in higher education.  The seminar will include a presentation of key findings from Carol’s work\, looking at some guiding principles of effective assessment feedback design for learning.  The presentation of literature will be followed by discussion\, allowing participants to contextualise and discuss their own practice.\nA standing lunch will be provided for participants prior to the afternoon’s workshop section.  After lunch participants will explore the role and nature of feedback exchanges in assessment through the creative use of scenario and role play.  A secondary outcome of the workshop is to continue to grow and enhance a community of practice within and beyond the institute\, where lecturers feel supported and can develop a network of professional peers with teaching\, learning and assessment expertise.  The day will facilitate group interaction in order to allow colleagues to share experiences both of successful innovations\, and less effective incidences of assessment feedback.\nEvans\, C.
