Inspiring Changes in Assessment and Feedback through a Programme Approach

This seminar is the second of two linked seminars on the TESTA assessment project, jointly coordinated by TCD and UCD. For convenience UCD is leading this seminar, whilst TCD is leading seminar 1 on the TESTA methodology and assessment mapping. Whilst attendance at both seminars is recommended, the seminars are designed to be stand-alone.

This second seminar places particular emphasis on the TESTA principles of assessment design and the characteristics of programme-level assessment environments that improve student learning. Participants will work with case study data to analyse assessment environments and relate their findings to their own context. Patterns of assessment that work (based on TESTA project evidence) will be explored, such as, balancing assessment of, for and as learning, high quality feedback practices, and students’ role in assessment and feedback.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the workshop participants will:

  1. Understand the TESTA methodology and the principles of assessment design
  2. Analyse and interpret programme-level assessment data as the starting point for changes to the assessment environment
  3. Explore and debate the characteristics of programme-level assessment environments that improve student learning and relate these to one’s own context
